From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
